The Corsair Nightsword V2 Wireless arrives with the kind of hardware specifications that immediately catch the attention of PC gamers. But specifications only tell part of the story.

The original Nightsword RGB had something much more unusual: a tunable weight system that allowed users to physically change the mouse’s weight and balance. That feature gave the Nightsword an identity in an increasingly crowded gaming-mouse market. The surprising problem with the Nightsword V2 Wireless is that Corsair removed it.

That decision changes the entire character of the product.

The new mouse is better in several technical areas, and its ergonomic shape remains comfortable for long sessions. Yet the feature that once made the Nightsword different has disappeared, while some of the old design frustrations, particularly the crowded thumb-button arrangement, remain.

The original Nightsword RGB was memorable because Corsair gave players control over something that most gaming mice simply ignored: weight distribution.

The system included six mounting positions and two sets of small metal weights. Through software, users could even monitor and adjust the mouse’s center of gravity. That meant players could experiment with how the mouse felt in the hand rather than simply accepting the balance chosen by the manufacturer.

For enthusiasts, this was more than a gimmick.

Mouse weight and balance can influence how a device feels during long gaming sessions, especially for players who have strong preferences about acceleration, control, wrist movement, and physical resistance. Removing that system therefore removes one of the most interesting reasons to buy a Nightsword in the first place.

The Nightsword V2 Wireless replaces that uniqueness with a more conventional premium gaming-mouse formula. The result is technically impressive but considerably less distinctive.

That puts it firmly in premium territory. At this price, buyers are no longer simply looking for a mouse that works well. They expect excellent ergonomics, reliable switches, strong wireless performance, useful software, long battery life, and at least one feature that makes the product stand out.

The Nightsword V2 delivers many of those fundamentals.

The concern is value.

When competing gaming mice offer similar sensors, wireless connectivity, programmable buttons, advanced switches, or even lighter designs, the Nightsword needs a compelling reason to win the buyer’s attention. The missing weight system makes that challenge harder.

Corsair also removed the indentation pattern found on the previous model.

That is arguably a practical improvement. Deep grooves can accumulate dust, skin oils, and grime over months of use, so a cleaner surface is easier to maintain. The new texturing provides grip without creating the same collection points.

RGB Lighting Takes a Back Seat

The Nightsword V2 Wireless also tones down its RGB presentation.

The main RGB zones are now concentrated around the scroll wheel, Corsair logo, and a small strip toward the rear underside. The lighting is therefore less prominent than on many gaming peripherals that treat RGB as a major visual feature.

That is not necessarily a disadvantage.

A mouse is held in the hand and often sits beneath a monitor, so dramatic RGB lighting is not particularly useful while actually gaming. Corsair’s reduced approach could even appeal to players who want a more understated desk setup.

Still, the reduced lighting reinforces the broader impression that the V2 is a more restrained product than its predecessor.

One of the strongest practical features of the Nightsword V2 Wireless is its extensive button configuration.

The mouse provides 11 inputs, including the two primary buttons, a clickable scroll wheel, left and right wheel tilt, a multifunction button behind the wheel, three thumb buttons, and two additional buttons positioned near the left mouse button.

That makes the Nightsword particularly interesting for MMO, MOBA, productivity, and other games where having multiple commands immediately available can be useful.

The buttons can be programmed through Corsair’s iCue software or the company’s browser-based Web Hub.

That flexibility is important because a mouse with many buttons is only as useful as its configuration. Being able to change those controls means players can adapt the mouse to different games and workflows rather than being locked into Corsair’s default layout.

Unfortunately, more buttons do not automatically mean better button placement.

The side buttons are positioned relatively close together, and this can create accidental presses. The reviewer specifically encountered situations in games such as Valorant and Marathon where attempting to use the sniper button resulted in the neighboring thumb button being activated.

That is particularly frustrating in competitive shooters.

Even more frustrating is that the original Nightsword reportedly had similar concerns regarding thumb-button positioning.

A sequel is supposed to learn from the first generation. When an old usability problem survives into a new premium model, the criticism becomes much harder to dismiss.
