Cybersecurity Awareness Month Flashback: Protecting Online Credentials in 2003

In honor of the 20th Cybersecurity Awareness Month, IBM Security is taking a trip back in time to 2003, the year the iconic IBM ThinkPad T40 was released. Believe it or not, protecting online credentials was just as important then as it is today.

As the image shows, the ThinkPad T40 was a sleek and powerful machine for its time. It featured a 14-inch screen, a Pentium M processor, and a 40GB hard drive. But what many people don’t know is that the T40 also came with a built-in fingerprint reader. This was a revolutionary feature at the time, as it allowed users to log in to their computers using their fingerprints instead of passwords.

The ThinkPad T40’s fingerprint reader was a major step forward in security. Passwords are easy to forget or guess, but fingerprints are unique to each individual. This made the T40 much more resistant to hacking.

IBM Security is committed to helping people protect their online credentials. We offer a variety of security solutions, including password managers, identity theft protection, and data encryption. We also provide educational resources to help people stay safe online.

So, the next time you’re using your laptop or smartphone, take a moment to think about how far cybersecurity has come. And remember, protecting your online credentials is just as important today as it was in 2003.Featured Image
