Apple is preparing to add lidar scanner capabilities to all iPhone 13 models launched in 2021, according to DigiTimes. Apple first added a lidar scanner, introduced in March 2020, to the iPad Pro. The iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max that were launched last year were eventually fitted with lidar scanners.
After touching an object, the lidar scanner can determine the time it takes for the laser to reflect, so it can draw a depth map of the space in which it is placed. Apple will first introduce new technologies to high-end devices under usual conditions, then move them to low-end devices. OLED displays, for example, are limited on iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max, and LCD screens are used on iPhone 11.
However, both have been upgraded to OLED displays in the iPhone 12 model range.
In September this year, Apple will be launching the iPhone 13 series, which is the same as the iPhone 12. Four versions and three sizes can exist. They are 5.4″ iPhone 13 mini, 6.1″ iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro, and 6.7″ iPhone 13 Pro Max, respectively.”
