Lock It Down, But Not Yourself: Sheet Protection Arrives on Excel for iPad!

Excel fans on iPad rejoice! You can now take control of your spreadsheets with the long-awaited Sheet Protection feature. This powerful tool lets you:

  • Lock down your data: Prevent accidental edits and safeguard sensitive information.
  • Pause and resume protection: Need to make a quick change? No problem! Temporarily disable protection and re-enable it with ease.
  • Manage your edits: Designate specific areas where users can make changes while keeping the rest of the sheet locked.
  • Password protection (optional): Add an extra layer of security with a password for managing sheet protection settings.

Here’s how to get started:

  1. Make sure you have the latest update: Ensure you’re using Excel for iPad version 2.90.930.0 or later.
  2. Activate Sheet Protection: There are two ways:
    • Sheet tab: Look for the lock icon on the sheet tab and tap “Protection…” in the pop-up menu.
    • Ribbon: Go to the “Review” tab and select “Protection.”
  3. Taking control:
    • Pause/Resume: Click “Pause Sheet Protection” to temporarily disable it and “Resume Sheet Protection” to re-enable. You’ll need to enter the password again if set.
    • Manage Sheet Protection: This option allows you to fine-tune settings, change passwords, and define edit ranges.
